One leader of this transformation is Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), a cutting-edge technology that has permeated many aspects of our lives, from professional endeavours to personal pursuits. To delve deeper into the impact and perceptions of GenAI, we interviewed 7 global young talents from Eviden – comprising interns, graduates, and apprentices - each at the forefront of the GenAI revolution. As they navigate the dual nature of GenAI's impact, balancing positive contributions with valid concerns, join us on a journey to uncover the role GenAI plays in both the professional and personal realms, as well as it’s broader implications on the future and society.

How do you use GenAI in your day-to-day work?

When I need ideas for content creation or don't understand technical articles.

How do you use GenAI in your private life?

For school, sometimes I run out of ideas.

Both positive and negative. Positive because it saves time and helps us understand things better, negative because it doesn't stimulate the brain.

How do you think GenAI will impact your future and wider society? 

I'm afraid my work will be less valued.

Daniela Marinova

How do you use GenAI in your day-to-day work?

My position in the organization requires creativity and out-of-box thinking and GenAI helps me bring my ideas to life and make my day-to-day work easier. I use the tool to generate text, images, voiceovers, however I believe still the personal touch is the fundamental part of every content I create.

How do you use GenAI in your private life?

In my private life I use the tool to plan my vacations. GenAI give route ideas, hotels suggestions and best sightseeing in the city. It's like your personal guide!  

Overall, do you think GenAI is positive or negative? Why?

I believe it is a positive and highly helpful tool. However, it depends how we use it, in my opinion, GenAI sometimes is delivering general and repetitive ideas, so while using it we must be continuous that we need to adjust to achieve the main goal and deliver the initial message. 

It is time saving and can bring different prospective in the brainstorming session. Moreover, the pictures generated from GenAI are free to use, can be detailed created for a specific use which is also cost saving.

How do you think GenAI will impact your future and wider society? 

I think GenAI will advance even further. By increasing the number of the usages, I believe the tool will continue to develop and grow. GenAI will help many professionals in their daily work to be more productive.

Any other comments and ideas regarding GenAI?

GenAI is powerful tool, which can highly help the humanity. Regardless that the technology is advancing, we are emotional human beings with a personal touch that can't be replaced.

How do you use GenAI in your day-to-day work?

As a data engineer, I sometimes use GenAI (ChatGPT) in my day-to-day tasks to seek guidance, brainstorm solutions, and validate ideas related to data migration, optimization, and troubleshooting. Interacting with GenAI allows me to quickly access relevant information, explore different approaches, and address challenges encountered during the database migration project I'm currently working on.

How do you use GenAI in your private life?

In my personal life, I often find myself using GenAI (ChatGPT) for a variety of practical tasks. Whether I'm composing emails, exploring random topics out of curiosity, or seeking advice on anything from travel recommendations to home improvement projects, sometimes GenAI can be my trusted companion.

The effects of GenAI, similar to other technologies, vary based on its utilization and the circumstances in which it operates. GenAI exhibits both positive and negative aspects.

GenAI offers significant benefits like enhanced productivity, improved accessibility to information, facilitated learning, and stimulation of creativity. However, it also presents negative aspects, such as the potential for misinformation, reduced critical thinking due to dependence, privacy concerns regarding data access, and ethical considerations surrounding its use in content creation and decision-making processes. Striking a balance between harnessing its benefits and addressing its challenges is crucial for responsible and effective utilization of GenAI.

How do you think GenAI will impact your future and wider society? 

From a personal perspective, I believe that GenAI will profoundly influence my future and broader society in several ways. On a personal level, it will likely enhance various aspects of my daily life, from simplifying tasks and providing instant access to information to enabling more personalized experiences and interactions. In broader society, GenAI holds the potential to revolutionize industries, alter employment patterns, and make knowledge and expertise more accessible to people from all backgrounds. However, it also brings up ethical, privacy, and socio-economic concerns that need careful attention and rules to make sure it's used responsibly and fairly. In the end, GenAI has a lot of potential for good, but how it affects us will depend on how well we handle its opportunities and challenges.

Any other comments and ideas regarding GenAI? 

Regarding GenAI, exploring its integration into various sectors like education, healthcare and entertainment, along with its potential to address societal challenges would be valuable. Additionally, discussing the ethical, legal, and regulatory considerations surrounding its adoption is crucial.

How do you use GenAI in your day-to-day work?

I use GenAI in many ways. I use it for summarizing and optimizing documents, creating notes, formatting, and commenting code.

How do you use GenAI in your private life?

GenAI helps me editing pictures. I also use it for creating funny images that I can share with my friends, colleagues, and family.

Overall, do you think GenAI is positive or negative?  Why?

For me, GenAI is something positive because the work you can do with it is endless. If you use it correctly, GenAI could transform 40% of total work time.

How do you think GenAI will impact your future and wider society? 

GenAI helps create new stuff like articles, videos, pictures, music, and much more. It's less time-consuming, and with good prompts, you can create almost everything.

Any other comments and ideas regarding GenAI? 

Everyone uses GenAI in one way or another. It's a new and interesting way to express yourself. 

Ella Yuill

How do you use GenAI in your day-to-day work?

Working in the data science team and in a technical position, I have firsthand experience with GenAI and seeing how it can benefit customers. Most recently, I have been using GenAI to produce datasets for various PoCs. It’s a great way to get the exact data needed and you can be more aware of any biases that may occur. The team have even used a tool called LangChain, which is a framework to develop applications powered by Large Language Models (LLMs).

How do you use GenAI in your private life?

Of course, I am guilty of using ChatGPT, the poster child of GenAI! If I am unsure on how to start a piece of writing, ChatGPT is a great place to get ideas. I am also quite active in the AI art world which, with GenAI, has taken off in recent years. DALL-E for example or even ArtBreeder.

Overall, do you think GenAI is positive or negative? Why?

Both! I studied AI Ethics so I am always going to be preaching the responsible and ethical use of AI, especially GenAI.

When used responsibly, GenAI can have huge benefits. It can streamline and automate processes, generate content and even support DEI initiatives through translation, personalisation and real-time captioning for example. However, if can pose several challenges and potential negatives. For example, fake/misleading content generation, privacy and copyright concerns and ethical issues around accountability, transparency and much more.

How do you think GenAI will impact your future and wider society? 

It already is impacting our future and wider society. GenAI, when used correctly, can boost innovation, operational efficiency and challenge seemingly "traditional" ways of working. It can potentially enhance creativity - an area I am most interested in.

How do you use GenAI in your day-to-day work?

GenAI can definitely be a useful tool for Marketing, as it can enhance efficiency and creativity. One key application is in content creation and optimisation. I find it useful as a starting point or template so, for example, when it comes to social media posts, ChatGPT can generate captions which I can use as a guide and edit to fit the campaign better. 

Additionally, GenAI can save a lot of time on simple but tedious tasks such as cleaning up data. When working with lots of account data, sometimes we have missing information such as domains. So GenAI can assist in matching simple data or even finding it. 

How do you use GenAI in your private life?

GenAI has so many possibilities that I have yet to explore! A couple recent ways I have used GenAI in my personal life is as a writing aid tool. E.g., it helped me structure my visa application for a holiday trip last year. One major way GenAI is used daily is via my personalised Spotify playlists which have been generated and curated for me based on my listening habits. I have also used ChatGPT to generate quick recipes that suit my preferences based on what ingredients I have on hand.

I see both sides but overall positive! GenAI has significantly enhanced efficiency and innovation across various industries. In my professional life, it has streamlined processes, facilitated creativity, and contributed to overall productivity. In my private life, GenAI has brought about convenience and personalisation, making daily tasks more manageable and providing tailored experiences in areas like entertainment and creative exploration. 

However, it's crucial to acknowledge the potential negative aspects of GenAI. Concerns around privacy, security, and the ethical use of AI technologies are valid considerations. 

How do you think GenAI will impact your future and wider society? 

When GenAI is used correctly, it can have great outcomes for society such as save time, increase productivity, help individuals understand complex concepts and facilitate creativity. However, there is the fear that it can disrupt certain jobs as well as devalue human-thought ideas and creative projects. I do believe that what GenAI lacks still is the human-like emotional intelligence. Balancing the positive potential of AI while addressing ethical and societal concerns is integral in ensuring that GenAI contributes positively to society.

In my day-to-day work, I leverage GenAI extensively for tasks that involve searching, as it significantly enhances efficiency and productivity by saving valuable time.

In my personal life, I find GenAI particularly helpful when I'm seeking to learn something new. Its ability to explain concepts repeatedly and in various ways aids in my understanding of complex topics.

Overall, I believe GenAI has a positive impact. Its ability to streamline tasks, enhance learning experiences, and provide valuable insights makes it a valuable tool in both professional and personal contexts.

The positive impact of GenAI stems from its ability to significantly boost productivity in various aspects of work and life. While its long-term implications remain uncertain, its current role as a productivity enhancer is undeniable.

How do you think GenAI will impact your future and wider society? 

GenAI has the potential to have a transformative impact on both individual futures and the larger society. In personal life, it will likely simplify tasks like web searches, making information more accessible and saving time. In professional settings, such as programming, GenAI's ability to generate scripts quickly will streamline workflows, benefiting programmers by saving time and enhancing efficiency. Overall, GenAI can become an indispensable tool in various aspects of life and work.
